The Bird Spa – Short Film
The Bird Spa – Short Film
A place for all feather(ed) friends …
This projects began when my friends from The Local Production Company and myself decided to participate in Straight 8, a global one-super-8-cartridge-no-editing short film competition.
We started with an idea that I already had in mind for some years. A spa for birds. A place for contemplation about the dangers of the real nature and the benefits of living in the calmness and safety of a human environment.
We worked with an amazing and talented crew, from art department, styling, make up, hair styling as well with tech crew and production. The birds themselves where all brought in from Natura Parc with special care takers and trainers. They really had a nice time in the spa if you ask me.
We did shot a Super 8 version for the contest and a digital version in parallel. Here you can see both.
Straight 8
Straight 8 is the global one-super-8-cartridge-no-editing short film competition founded in London in 1999. The short film must be made on one cartridge of super 8mm cine film with no editing, no re-takes, no grade, no post-production then sent back to be developed in the contest’s laboratory.
That means that even the visuals for your film are completed in-camera, shooting in story order, editing only with each pull of the camera's trigger. Every shot you take becomes your final film.
An entirely old/new challenge in our digital era, but definitely one of the most fun and creative ways to work.
